The Princess Of Wales Wears Fashion’s New Favourite Colour — Here’s What It Tells Us About Kate Right Now

On St Patrick’s Day, the Princess of Wales has returned to duty as colonel of the Irish Guards. The mother of three missed last year’s parade due to her cancer diagnosis but has returned to the event at Wellington Barracks in London wearing a look packed with subtle takeaways.

In her time as a royal, Kate Middleton has become exemplary at democratic dressing, often giving a subtle nod through her fashion choices to the countries and situations she finds herself in. No change for today either as the Princess opted for a dark green ensemble that speaks to Ireland’s national shade. She wore an Alexander McQueen tailored coat, a matching hat decorated with floral details, knee-high boots with a scarf and gloves. She also gave a subtle, sentimental nod to her late mother-in-law by wearing a brooch by one of Diana‘s preferred jewellery brands, Cartier. The style has long been worn by the royal family having first been spotted in 1961, pinned to the shoulder of Princess Mary, King Charles III’s great aunt.

While the Princess of Wales’ choice of green was expected for the occasion, there’s more than meets the eye. Green is not only the colour of the season, as declared by the catwalk, but it comes with a deeper meaning, too.

Green, whether jade, emerald or Middleton’s choice of a deep, dark hue, is known as a shade of renewal and regrowth thanks to its obvious connection with the natural world. It is also known as the shade most associated with pursuing luck. Here, worn by the Princess of Wales who is slowly returning to her royal duties after a year of recovery, the colour and its connotations find a new context that many will appreciate and relate to.

Separate from these sentiments, the colour is also big news in fashion circles right now. A spectrum of greens populated the SS25 catwalk at brands from Prada to Ahluwalia, with Victoria Beckham creating a silky emerald dress that quickly became a viral sensation after being worn by Gigi Hadid on the runway.

So, considering the nod from the catwalk and the triptych of sentimental notions of the well-decorated green outfit, it’s another look from the Princess of Wales that warrants a closer inspection.
