GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Colorado Mesa University’s Cultural Inclusion Council is hosting its 7th annual fashion show Saturday, March 1. Every year, the fashion show is put on to showcase and celebrate the different cultures across CMU’s campus. “Our theme this year is global glamour, a celebration of cultures. So, focusing on traditions and important values within their cultures. Some of them [student alliance groups] are doing dances and performances to showcase their culture and all the clothes and music is centered around their culture,” said Isenia Fregoso, director of Cultural Inclusion Council.

Proceeds from the fashion show help fund CIC. The show is completely student-run, and all models are members of various CIC student alliance groups. “It’s a great learning experience for the audience to learn about different cultures and backgrounds and get a different perspective of students who are at CMU. We have a lot of students who are bringing their outfits from back home, the country they are from, so we are excited to see those outfits,” said Nia Taubr, International Student Alliance member. “There’s not much diversity in Grand Junction in general, so it’s great to show everybody’s culture and spread awareness and teach people our food, our clothes, and what we like to do,” said Elizabeth Fernandez Salas, Latino Student Alliance member.
