NYFW Fashion Trend: Hybrid Street Style
“Street style is definitely alive again. It feels like fashion has its soul back,” Barton shares with Forbes.com via e-mail. “This season’s street style was buzzing with real creativity [and] unexpected pairings everywhere. It’s playful, expressive and just fun again.”
Before, after and between the various fittings, fashion shows and after-parties, photographers scurry to capture the candid fashion moments of the models, editors and other attendees. These images are famous for “model off-duty” style inspiration as well as their inventiveness.
Barton noticed that this season’s street style yielded unexpected blends of distinct styles for hybrid looks. “Sporty-meets-ultra-femme” and “boho with an edge” are two of the hybrid styles that she noted seeing. She also adds that self-expression could be found in the details, such as “brooches and colorful lace tights peeking out.”

NYFW Trend: Bold Color Contrasts
Muted neutrals and monochromatic looks have been a predominant style for several seasons now. But it’s possible that the reign of understated earth tones may soon share the stage with bolder, head-turning pigment pairings. Barton saw vibrant hues having a major moment—and is thrilled to see it.
“Color is making a major comeback and I couldn’t be more obsessed. The runways were drenched in rich, saturated hues,” Barton writes. “Last year was all about monochromatic dressing, but now? It’s about mixing bold tones for perfect contrast.”
In other words, this season will favor the bold and looks that make use of high contrast pairings.

NYFW Trend: Seventies-Inspired Color Palettes
The specific hues that Barton noticed have a distinctly ‘70’s-era feel, a color palette made up of vintage takes on earth tones. Fashion eras re-emerge cyclically—take, for instance, the ‘90’s-style re-popularization of lower-rise waists, baggier fits and grunge-inspired glam. Now? It’s the 1970’s turn.
Barton names “deep olive [greens], velvety plums and fiery reds” as a few of the dominant hues on the runways. She also saw combinations of bold hues with soft pastels and prints to create statement-making looks.
“Right now, for current color obsessions, I am all about rich browns, buttery yellows, deep olive [green] and any shade of red,” Barton says. “They just feel so luxe and effortless.”
This seventies resurgence was first hinted at when former Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele presented his inaugural 2024 collection at the helm of Valentino; it had a distinctly seventies feel. True to form, the visionary’s creative inspiration also shaped the wider industry’s trajectory.

NYFW Trend: Edgy Bohemian
Barton describes one of the emerging fashion aesthetics as a relaxed, bohemian vibe, but with “attitude.” The flowing, carefree style is being modernized with “warm brown tones, oversized frames, layered textures and animal prints.”
“Boho is back and here to stay,” Barton says, with its influence “creeping into everything I’m styling.” She says that these looks are being spiced-up with prints, from animal stripes to oversized polka dots as the “ultimate way to add personality to looks.” These looks are especially striking when paired with garments that feature crisp edges and sharp or inventive tailoring.
It is true that fashion world has seen an infusion of warm brown shades that differentiate themselves in hue and texture. Texture and finish has been particularly unique in outerwear and accessories, from the rise of statement leather trenches to the textures of handbags, such as the influx of brown suede handbags at Miu Miu, or the corduroy, denim and shearling offerings at Saint Laurent.

NYFW Trend: Menswear With A Twist
Fashionistas have always loved to steal from the boys. Especially lately, with oversized outwear, suiting and separates everywhere. The menswear trend is continuing, but evolving, according to Barton.
“This season it was about menswear with a twist. Tailored pieces are still going strong, but in 2025, it’s all about the unexpected,” she explains. “Think: structured blazers styled with something undone—whether it’s a slouchy boot, a peek of lace or layered jewelry to break the seriousness.”
This trend is all about striking a certain balance between the textures and structural silhouette of your clothes. The fit and accessorizing of a look is how creative expression often makes its way into personal style. Playing within the framework of the menswear trend might mean pairing a boxy, oversized silhouette with a feminine heeled bootie or a sexy bustier top. An oversized bomber jacket might top an itty-bitty crop top and low-rise denim, or, in Barton’s case, a statement leather trench might top a tailored men’s shirt and tie.

NYFW Trend: Spicy Minimalism to Full-Blown Maximalism
From beauty to fashion, every rising trend inspires its counter-trend—and to be fair, minimalism has had its fair share of spotlight. Now, it’s time for the maximalists to spice things up with playful touches—including adding a multiplicity of textures to give life to monochrome outfits.
“More is more,” Barton says. She saw “oversized bags, chunky earrings, statement hats and layers on layers” coming out in droves. “If you’re gonna do it, do it big. I’m all for maximalism making its way back into the spotlight.”
Remember that every trend emerges with, and in reaction to, its counter-trend, often cyclically. After adorable yet impractical mini handbags with well-defined edges stole our hearts, the pendulum invites the opposite back into the coveted looks of the moment.
To understand the shifts in fashion aesthetics via the haute mysticism trend, first consider the poised and serious aura of a Virgo—the meticulous “adult” of the Zodiac. The maximalist touch invites a spark of inspiration from the bold and fiery Aries. According to Barton’s takeaways, this freeing rebellion is inherent in the fashion industry as the next phase of the fashion cycle unfolds.
