ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -The Ethnic Heritage Museum hosted Cleta’s Stay and Sew fashion show Saturday.
Students showed off their creations with more than a dozen of them acting as models. Outfits featured included matching pajamas, a fake fur coat and matching hat and a dress with pockets.
There’s also an exhibit at the museum for Black History Month featuring Ruben’s Pharmacy, which is a block away from the museum on Main Street. It started in 1910, and Ruben took it over in 1978. When he died his pharmacy assistant and sister Cleta turned the place into a fashion shop and sewing school, Cleta’s Stay and Sew.
“It’s kind of neat that even though the neighborhood’s changing some of the businesses in the neighborhood are also evolving. that’s why we did it: to showcase all the change over the years,” said museum Board of Directors, David Ruffin.
For those interested in viewing the exhibit the museum is open every Sunday between 2 and 4 p.m. for guided tours. You can also reach out to the museum for a private tour.
