The futuristic hood was, for some time, a high fashion girl’s red carpet reachable. While we can trace it back to A View To Kill era Grace Jones and the ’80s runways of Saint Laurent and Mugler, it had something of a revival from Rihanna in multiple custom Alaïa looks to the wardrobes of Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Florence Pugh on the Dune 2 press tour.

Monica Barbaro looked striking—and every bit a Schiapar-alien—in a hooded black [Schiaparelli spring 2024 Haute Couture](https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2024-couture/schiaparelli){: target=”_blank”} gown. Practical too, to weather London’s freezing temperatures last night (January 14), as she walked the red carpet at the BFI Southbank for the British premiere of A Complete Unknown. The silky gown also features a subtle mermaid tail, which has become a resounding silhouette on this season’s red carpets so far, and plunged to her décolleté. Styled by Jeanann Williams, Barbaro was sans jewelry too, except for silver earrings and the dress’s ornate stoned buckle at the hood, fastened with Schiaparelli’s signature keyhole motif. The look stayed true to the airs of Daniel Roseberry’s [sleek and chic, retro extraterrestrial collection](https://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2024-couture/schiaparelli){: target=”_blank”}.
