A fundraiser for a local nonprofit dedicated to helping women transition from the prison system has steadily gained steam.
This year’s Timeless Beauty Fashion Show, held Sept. 6 at Trinity Bible Church, was no different.
“We used to do it every other year, but it was such a big hit last year, so we decided to do it yearly,” said Kim Brewer, executive director of Sanctified Hope for Women. “We had a wonderful turnout. The Parker County and Weatherford chambers helped us get the word out and we had some great sponsors.”
Women participating in the nonprofit’s transitional program took the runway, modeling fashions from different boutiques around the county, with items available to purchase through individual vendors.
Sanctified Hope specializes in bridging the gap as a home for women coming out of incarceration, offering Bible-based discipleship training, vocational classes, job training and volunteer programs to lead them to full-time employment.
“It’s a year-long program, but we also offer an after-grad program for those finishing school,” Brewer said.
Currently, the program has eight women occupying the available 19 beds. It’s a number that continually fluctuates depending on a number of factors, including parole board answers.
“We do have an accepted list, and there are 24 ladies that have applied and been accepted into our program,” Brewer said. “It’s important to know that they aren’t mandated to be here. They want to be here.
“When you’re released from prison, they send you with $50 and the clothes on your back.”
Funds from the fashion show will go toward the nonprofit’s general operations, including helping with curriculum and transportation needs. Brewer hinted at a bigger need going forward, in adding on to the educational building. Built in 2020, the director said the building is on the verge of being outgrown, with more space needed for office, classroom and counseling.
Donations are always welcomed, be they monetary, beauty or essential, including toilet paper and tissue, storage bags and foil, shampoo and conditioner and makeup, among other things.
The nonprofit also accepts a variety of volunteers, from financial coaches to clothing and donation coordinators, mentors, drivers and more.
