Happy Saturday.

Happy Game Day.

Enjoy a quick selection of today’s news!

The Lightning

Lightning recall Max Crozier [Raw Charge]

With Erik Cernak ailing, the Lightning bolstered their defensive group with the addition of Max Crozier. Will he play tonight? (shakes Magic 8 Ball) Outlook uncertain.

Three things we like about the Lightning’s new power play look [Tampa Bay Times]

Lightning beat writer (and fellow Orioles aficionado) breaks down the new power play we saw against the Ducks. So much Kucherov.

Lightning mid-season report cards: third-line forwards [The Hockey Writers]

Jack Pallotta has been providing a nice breakdown of the team through the first half. Here he tackles the third-line. It hasn’t been great (but y’all are more than aware of that).

Two Minutes for suiting [Tampa Bay Lightning]

It’s going to be a little chilly in Tampa this week, so the Lightning offered some fashion tops for dealing with the cold weather. All Vasy needs is some tinted glasses and he’s right at home in the 1970s.

The Prospects

Syracuse Crunch 4, Bridgeport 1 [The AHL]

Gage Goncalves – welcome back to Syracuse! Over-Age Gage scored twice within two minutes in the second period, and then added an assist on Conor Sheary’s 9th goal as a member of the Crunch to power the team over the Bridgeport Islanders, 4-1. Matt Tomkins stopped 29 of 30 for the win.

2025 AHL All-Star Classic Roster Analysis: The North Division [Flosports]

The guru of the AHL, Patrick Williams, breaks down the AHL North Roster, which includes the Crunch’s resilient goaltender, Brandon Halverson.

Issac Howard earns first star honors [Michigan State Hockey]

Earlier this week, one of the Lightning’s top prospects was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week. Isaac Howard posted five goals and an assist over the weekend as he throws his name into the hat for a possible Hobey Baker Award nomination. With 18 goals, Howard leads the nation in goals, and he is on pace to be the first Spartan to score 20 goals in a season since Corey Tropp did it in 2009-10.

The Game

Projected lines for 4 Nations Face-off [Daily Faceoff]

It’s funny that they’ve split up Brandon Hagel and Anthony Cirelli. No way Coop is doing that (at least two start the tournament). We would expect Bagel and Tony Two Goals to play together on the third line with Marchand bumped up to the second line.

Larry Robinson impressed by Canadiens’ St. Louis [Montreal Gazette]

It’s not easy for hall-of-fame players to transition to successful bench bosses. Ted Williams wasn’t a great manager despite being the best dang ballplayer to walk down the street. Wayne Gretzky had mixed results as a head coach. So to see Martin St. Louis successfully lead a rebuild in Montreal is a refreshing.

A conversation with Ella Licari, Part One [The Ice Garden]

Our friends talk with Ella Licari, a goaltender for the Sydney Sirens, about growing up a hockey fan in Australia and playing professionally in a country that doesn’t have a lot of ice rinks.

Maxim Tsyplakov suspended three games for illegal check to the head [Department of Player Safety]

The Islanders forward is $14,843.76 poorer thanks to his check to the head of Flyers forward Ryan Poehling. Cool. Now do Conor McDavid.

Oilers sign John Kilngberg to a one-year contract [Oilers Nation]

The Edmonton Oilers took a shot at patching up their defensive unit by signing the veteran blueliner to a one-year, pro-rated $1 million contract that includes a $350,000 signing bonus. Despite not playing in a game since November of 2023, there is a good chance Klingberg ends up on their second pairing at some point soon.
