Lauded as one of India’s most celebrated and pioneering designers, her work, quite literally, put Indian craft on the global map.
Of course, her rise did not just stop there. As if she hadn’t achieved enough milestones, Ritu Beri went on to bag another groundbreaking milestone in 2001 by becoming the first Asian to head the prestigious French fashion house, Scherrer. For over three decades, the designs crafted by Ritu have been worn by some of the world’s most famous personalities—celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Andie McDowell, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, and even royalty.
Her high-profile clients only add to her reputation as a designer who transcends borders with her creations.
Her skill and enormous contribution to the field of fashion has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Chevaliere des Art et des Lettres award from the French government. Even her label is global with luxury retail outlets across the globe. She was the first Indian designer to be featured in Promostyl magazine, which forecasts fashion trends, and Time magazine even named her as someone to watch in the business world.
When she was not busy designing clothes, she was bent over the desk, penning her next book. The published author has written 101 Ways to Look Good and the limited-edition Firefly – A Fairytale, a book that takes readers through her personal experiences in Paris and discusses topics ranging from fashion and architecture to women’s beauty.
And, as they say – there’s no rest for the wicked. Which is why even at 52, despite achieving everything that designers can only dream of achieving, Ritu is stepping into an exciting new chapter. Her latest venture, ESCAPE Goa, is a multi-brand, multi-functional boutique housed in a stunning, renovated 200-year-old Portuguese villa.
