I have been watching and interested in Infinity Nikki since I saw it pop up during the PlayStation State of Play in May. Getting an invitation to test out a preview build of the game was exciting news. I grabbed at it as soon as I was able. The game starts pretty simply, Nikki and her little pal Momo see a new gorgeous dress in a cabinet. After looking at it, the dress then grabs Nikki and pulls her into a portal with Momo. She lands in a new and unknown land. Now it is up to Nikki and Momo to figure out how to leave Miraland while also exploring it and figuring out her skills as a Stylist.
Nikki The Stylist
Nikki has a variety of abilities tied to her inventory of outfits. You create special ability outfits by finding Wishstars and using them to unlock sketches, which serve as blueprints for the outfits. Then, you gather materials—either by collecting them or finding them in Treasure Chests—to create the outfits. Once you’ve crafted an outfit, you can overlay it on your character if you wish, or you can continue playing in the default outfit. Additionally, you have the option to mix and match outfits as you go through the game.
The abilities you start with include floating, which comes from the floating outfit, and throwing magical spheres that purify shadows using the purification outfit. This purification ability can also be used to cleanse currency found throughout Miraland. With the floating outfit, you can achieve a higher jump by holding the jump button, and then you can move to float while in the air.
Going Through Miraland
As you play Infinity Nikki, you can explore almost anywhere. You can jump on umbrellas to grab blight stars or use balloons to reach higher altitudes, then utilize the floating outfit to gain even more airtime. Navigating the open world is quite easy, making exploration fun. Eventually, you’ll gain access to a gumball machine in the game where you can insert blight and turn the dial to receive outfit pieces or other resources. I had to resist spending all my blight because these outfits look amazing!
I love the fabrics and textures of each new clothing piece. You can also obtain clothing from resonance stones in the game, which you acquire by spending diamonds or completing story quest missions. Diamonds can be found in treasure chests or earned through side missions. There’s a variety of side missions available, ranging from gathering materials to purifying shadows.
Overall, I enjoyed my time in Infinity Nikki! There is a wide variety of outfits, and I’ll definitely be compelled to collect all the currency and explore every nook and cranny to find as many outfits as possible. If you enjoy games that offer a diverse range of outfits or a solid open-world experience, this is one to look out for.
