Georgia secured a record-breaking Orange Bowl win over FSU with a Bulldogs player even appearing on Instagram Live during the 63-3 demolition of the Seminoles in the matchup of teams missing out on the College Football Playoff (CFP).

No. 6 Georgia broke its own record set last season (65-7) for the largest margin of victory in bowl season history after Saturday’s win at Hard Rock Stadium – home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins – in Florida.

The Bulldogs nearly matched the Orange Bowl record set by West Virginia in 2012 for points (70), although they did win by an Orange Bowl-record 60 points. They also had the largest halftime lead (42-3) in the history of the annual bowl game.

Georgia senior defensive lineman Warren Brinson started streaming himself on his Instagram account (@warren) from the sideline and was reportedly shaking his head as even he was shocked by the scoreline in the second half.

No. 4 FSU was undefeated before playing Georgia. The Bulldogs were 13-1 before playing their last game of 2023, as they lost to No. 5 Alabama earlier this month in the SEC champions game – Georgia’s first loss since the 2021 season – and missed out on one of four spots in CFP rankings. Instead, they settled for the seventh New Year’s Six bowl appearance in program history.

FSU failed to make the CFP cut despite winning the Atlantic Coast Conference title, and because of transfers, opt-outs and injuries, the Seminoles were without players who were responsible for 97 percent of their passing yards, 88 percent of their rushing yards and 84 percent of their receptions this season.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck passed for 203 yards and two touchdowns, before backup QB Gunnar Stockton passed for two more scores in the second half. In total, Georgia scored on nine of 12 drives and gained 673 total yards against FSU, which only had 209.

The shellacking ended Florida State’s 19-game winning streak, which was second-longest behind Washington (20). The Seminoles defeated then-No. 15 Louisville in the ACC title game but were left out of the College Football Playoff partly due to a season-ending leg injury to starting quarterback Jordan Travis.

Florida State became the first Power Five conference champion  to finish with an undefeated record and still be left out of the playoff. In the week leading up to the Orange Bowl game, players of the Bulldogs expressed their understanding of the Seminoles’ frustrations, while acknowledging that they, too, felt slighted.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart had lobbied for the selection committee to consider the Bulldogs’ full resume in making their final decision: Georgia won 29 straight games before the SEC title matchup and finished the season with the eighth-best offense in the country and the No. 9 defense. It wasn’t enough. And the Bulldogs vented their frustrations in the Orange Bowl – possession by possession, as college football fans made fun of the Seminoles in Saturday’s game.

‘When FSU threatened to not show up at the Orange Bowl, I thought they were kidding, tweeted a user on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Georgia will now open the 2024 season against Clemson in Atlanta. Beck is returning for his senior season.

For FSU, an offseason of rebuilding will ensue, although the Seminoles will start the 2024 season against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, marking the second time that the two ACC team have opened the season in Ireland.
