Ella Emhoff on Her 2025 “Uniform” and the “Charmification” of Fashion

Coach took over the Park Avenue Armory this afternoon with a show that felt wholeheartedly made for New York City. Models strutted down the runway in everything from sheer black dresses worn over pants to boxy, super-cropped leather jackets, and purposely-dirty sneakers with stuffed animals stuck to them. Accessories included charmed-up purses, neon sunglasses, tiny bags worn as necklaces, and slouchy clutches smushed under armpits—in a chic way.

The palette went from fresh creams to deep blues, warm browns, and sleek blacks. And, it was mimicked on the front row, where famous New Yorkers—including Ella Emhoff, Emily Ratajkowski, and Tommy Dorfman—sat, observant, in different shades of Coach.

“I left that show thinking it was made just for me. Everything about it—from the jackets hitting the pants hems to the overall styling—was perfect in my eyes,” Emhoff tells Harper’s Bazaar after the show. “The big pants, little top combo remains the best.”

The former second daughter wore a boxy suede set in a luxurious chocolate brown. It included a long button-up jacket with glossy leather pockets at the sides—the buttons of which shone with the house’s golden C logo. From under the jacket peeked out a matching suede miniskirt.

“I’m really excited about the uniform this year. Not in the school uniform sense, but more in terms of having key silhouettes that I own in multiple versions,” says Emhoff, who has become a regular at fashion show front rows around the world. “I really want to get back into suiting this year. I have a mismatched collection of blazers and dress pants that need some attention. There were some great blazer vest combos in the show.”

Today, she of course found a way to put a cool-girl spin on her elevated co-ord, styling it with sheer black tights and Coach’s “dirty” white sneakers worn with bunched-up ribbed socks. Her shoes were customized with a little Bambi toy attached to one of them and scribbles all over. “See you there” was written on one sneaker. “See you soon” the other answered.

“The shoe charms—I’m really into this next level of charmification in fashion. It’s a fun way to elevate simple outfits without going overboard,” Emhoff says.

She also carried Coach’s massive new shoulder bag made to look like an incredibly oversize coin purse. She chose the iteration in smooth ivory leather, and also customized it with some doodles and scribbles. “Perfect angel,” one message on the bag read. “See you there. See you soon. See you again. See you never,” read another.

The final touch in her fit was the single, twisted silver hoop she wore on one ear, leaving the other wanting more.

Emhoff says that while she’ll always put her own funky spin on a look, she’s leaning more into her core personal style, rather than on being experimental, these days. “Recently, I find myself less excited about taking fashion risks and more inclined to stay in my comfort zone,” she admits. “I’m definitely prioritizing comfort overall—lots of oversized pants, sweaters, sneakers, and easy pieces you can just throw on. I do still love a fancy little top sometimes, but to me, that’s comfortable too.”
