Ella Emhoff’s knitting club may be temporarily on pause, but the First Daughter of Bushwick’s burgeoning runway career is in full swing. After making a couple of front-row stops at Proenza Schouler and Susan Alexandra x Rachel Antonoff, Vice-President Kamala Harris’s stepdaughter hit the runway in this season’s New York Fashion Week at Coach’s Spring 2025 show, bringing her detached-fashion-kid aesthetic to the big leagues once more.
Just a few weeks after playing up the Kamala-nomenon at the DNC, Emhoff stomped down the High Line Monday dressed in Coach’s take on a classic “I Heart NY” T-shirt, a black miniskirt, and the Gen-Z version of a Matrix leather trench. She accessorized with her signature oversize lenses, and her cow tattoos — which prompted much pearl-clutching at the DNC — were on full display. Per the New York Post, Coach creative director Stuart Vevers said the collection was dedicated to “celebrating the energy of New York City and the spirit of its people.” If Vevers was hoping to capture the “spirit” of a liberal-arts grad with a specialty in textiles and a taste for Joe Ando dresses, then he absolutely nailed the brief.
Emhoff became an overnight style icon after President Joe Biden’s inauguration, and the Parsons grad is now a front-row fixture. Since signing with IMG Models in 2021, she’s walked the runway for Balenciaga and Proenza Schouler and modeled in campaigns for Adidas and Stella McCartney. On Tuesday, while her stepmother was gearing up for her first debate against Donald Trump, Emhoff was seen sitting alongside Jodie Turner-Smith, Elizabeth Olsen, Mindy Kaling, Joey King, Lola Tung, and Kiki Layne at Tory Burch — all in matching pumps. Hopefully her Secret Service detail was also gifted a pair.
