Before she was Barbie, Margot Robbie had spent quite a bit of time playing a slightly less wholesome and slightly more dangerous character: Harley Quinn. She played the role three times, in 2016’s Suicide Squad, 2020’s Birds of Prey, and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Released during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Suicide Squad underperformed in theaters, grossing less than $60 million in American theaters and, even counting international numbers, failed to earn back its production budget. Lately, though, it seems to have found its audience through home video and streaming, bringing a new appreciation to a film that had won critical acclaim upon its release. As for Robbie, she was just happy to get a chance to play Harley Quinn again, and in The Suicide Squad, she really loved the look the character was given.
