Milan becomes a living runway beginning Friday, with shows and presentations that will drive the fashion pack hither and yon around the city. To help them before, in between and after shows and events, WWD made a list of what’s new in terms of food, stores and exhibitions.

JMM Gallery

Jacques Marie Mage, the Los Angeles-based niche accessories brand, has unveiled its first JMM Gallery in Milan, in Via della Spiga. This is the first unit in Europe and it will carry the signature selection of limited-edition eyewear, leather goods, jewelry, and fine artifacts and memorabilia.

The gallery draws its inspiration from the landscapes and traditional crafts of New Mexico and the American Southwest. As with all JMM Galleries, furniture was carefully selected and includes pieces produced by Paris-based furniture design firm Hervet Manufacturier. Authentic Indigenous art and craftworks are on display, such as beaded leather moccasins created by Northern Plains tribes, each with their own set of symbols and patterns established through beading technique, imagery and color, and there is an assortment of more than 15 expressions of Native American pottery.

Pacifico Milano

In 2015, Pacifico, a restaurant that specializes in Nikkei cuisine, which mixes Japanese and Peruvian ingredients, opened in Milan in Via della Moscova, 29. To mark its 10th anniversary, it has been completely restyled, drawing inspiration from the bistrots of the 1970s, with pieces of furniture and works of art from that period.

The selection of ingredients has also been entirely renewed, with fish arriving by air from Sardinia and the wide selection of meats coming from one of the most prestigious U.S. cattle farms in Kansas, known for its strict selection practices, welfare and nutrition of its 100 percent Black Angus cattle.

Salads and vegetables come from a collaboration with Planet Farm, a leading Milan-based vertical farming company. Among the signature dishes, the menu lists ceviches, tacos and tiraditos, a Peruvian dish of raw fish.

The bar offers cocktails such as the “Hasekura,” made with tequila, mezcal, wasabi, Martini Fiero, coffee, fake lime and grapefruit, or the “Fushimi” made with Hendrick’s gin, lime, yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit) and tonic.

“Ugo Mulas. The Process of Photography” exhibition

“Ugo Mulas. The Process of Photography” retrospective exhibition is on display at Palazzo Reale until Feb. 2. The exhibition showcases more than 300 images, vintage photos, documents, books and films spanning over Mulas’ entire production — from theater to fashion, from portraits of international artists and protagonists of the American Pop Art movement to intellectuals, architects and personalities including Marcel Duchamp, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.

“The Process of Photography” subtitle was inspired by one of the most important series created by Mulas, the Verifiche (1968-72), which opens the retrospective: words that came about as a result of the artist’s rigorous conceptual reflection on the history of photography.

Also on display for the first time are several portraits of some of the most important figures in design, architecture and art associated with the city of Milan, including Gae Aulenti, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, and Gio Ponti. The photographer’s career is analyzed through 14 chapters such as theater, Milan, places, portraits, fashion, nudes and jewelry, among others.

“Munch. Il grido interiore [The inner scream]” exhibition

Until Jan. 26, Palazzo Reale is hosting a retrospective of one of the leading symbolist artists of the 19th century, Edvard Munch.

Curated by Patricia Berman in collaboration with Costantino D’Orazio for support in writing the exhibition’s wall texts, the exhibition spans over the artist’s universe, his life journey and his work.
